How can we help?

Answers to 45 questions clients ask, from opening an account to getting your collateral back. Search, or browse by topic.

Getting started

Who can borrow with Lombard Private?

Anyone who holds bitcoin, ether, Solana, USDT or USDC and wants cash in a bank account without selling it, whether you are a private individual or a company. Our services are not available to residents of the restricted jurisdictions we list.

What do I need to get started?

Three things: crypto-assets you can send from a wallet or an exchange, a bank account in euros, US dollars, pounds sterling or Swiss francs to receive the money, and a safe place for your account number and recovery kit, such as a password manager. No documents, no email address, no phone number.

Can I see my rate before opening an account?

Yes. The loan calculator shows your all-in rate, your monthly interest, the collateral needed and your margin-call and liquidation prices, without any sign-up. Your offer is confirmed in your client area before you commit.

How much can I borrow?

From €1,000 to €2,000,000, or the equivalent in another currency, within the loan-to-value limit of your collateral. From €250,000, a dedicated advisor follows your loan through our private desk, and above €2,000,000 we tailor the terms with you.

How long does it take, from start to funds?

Opening an account takes about a minute. Your collateral is credited once the network has confirmed it: 2 confirmations on Bitcoin (about 20 minutes), 64 blocks on Ethereum (about 13 minutes), 20 blocks on Tron (about 1 minute) and finalisation on Solana (under a minute). The loan is then typically sent within the hour. Your bank’s own processing can add time, particularly for transfers that only run on business days.

Account & security

Why is my account a number rather than an email address?

Because an email address or a phone number is personal data that can leak, be sold or be used to phish you. The 16-digit account number we generate identifies your account without identifying you. You protect it with a password and, ideally, a passkey or an authenticator app.

I forgot my password. How do I get back in?

Use the recovery kit you downloaded when you opened your account: it lets you restore access and choose a new password. We cannot reset a password by email, text or phone, because we do not know who you are. If you have lost both your password and your recovery kit, we may be unable to restore your access, so keep the kit offline, in a safe place.

How to protect your account

Can I add two-factor authentication or a passkey?

Yes, and we recommend both. A passkey signs you in with your device’s fingerprint, face or PIN and resists phishing; codes from an authenticator app add a second step to your password. You can add or remove them in the security settings of your client area.

How do I see which devices are signed in?

The security settings of your client area list the sessions open on your account. You can sign out any device you do not recognise, then change your password.

Someone contacted me claiming to be Lombard Private. What should I do?

Do not reply and do not click any link: it is not us. We never email, text or call, we do not offer support on social networks or messaging apps, and no one from Lombard Private will ever ask for your password, your recovery kit or a wallet seed phrase. Only use lombardprivate.com, typed in yourself.

How we contact you

Rates & fees

How is my rate set?

By your loan-to-value and your collateral. For bitcoin, the all-in APR is 8.9% up to 30% loan-to-value, 10.9% up to 50% and 12.9% up to 60%. Ether carries 0.5 point more and Solana 1.5 points more; USDT and USDC are at a flat 6.9%. The rate falls by 0.5 point from €250,000 and by 1 point from €1,000,000.

All rates

How is interest calculated?

Interest accrues every day on the amount you owe, so you only pay for the days you actually borrow. As an example, €10,000 at 10.9% APR costs about €90.83 a month; repay after six weeks and you pay six weeks of interest.

Are there any fees besides interest?

There is no origination, administration or early-repayment fee, and payouts by SEPA or Faster Payments are free. SWIFT payouts are charged at cost, and the network fee to return your collateral is charged at cost and shown before you confirm. A liquidation fee of 1% (partial) or 2% (full) of the amount sold applies only if a liquidation happens.

Fee schedule

Can my rate change during the loan?

The rate of a fixed-term loan is locked for its whole term. The rate of an open-ended credit line may change for the future, with prior notice in your client area; you can then repay without any fee before the change applies.

Do I have to pay interest every month?

You choose. Paying monthly keeps the amount you owe steady, so interest never adds to your loan-to-value. Letting interest accrue means nothing to pay until you repay, but the amount you owe grows a little each day, and your loan-to-value with it.

Collateral & custody

Which crypto-assets can I pledge?

Bitcoin (up to 60% loan-to-value), ether (50%), Solana (40%), and the USDT and USDC stablecoins (80%), each on the networks shown for it in your client area. Wrapped tokens, staked or liquid-staking tokens and assets on layer-2 networks are not accepted.

Where do I send my collateral?

To the deposit address created for your loan, which appears in your client area once you have chosen your terms. Send only the asset, on the network, shown for that address: a transfer of another asset, or on another network, may be lost permanently.

How can I check that my collateral is still there?

Copy your loan’s address from your client area and look it up on any public block explorer for that network: you will see its balance and every movement. Your collateral is held in multi-signature cold storage, so no single person can move it, and it is never lent, staked, pledged or rehypothecated.

Proof of collateral

Can I add collateral later?

Yes, at any time, by sending more of the same asset to your loan’s address. A top-up lowers your loan-to-value as soon as it is confirmed, and top-ups remain open during a margin call.

Can I withdraw part of my collateral?

Yes. If the value of your collateral has risen, you can withdraw the surplus from your client area, provided your loan-to-value after the withdrawal stays within the limit shown there. It is sent to the address you choose.

Payouts

In which currencies can I receive the loan?

In euros by SEPA Instant or SEPA, US dollars by SWIFT or Fedwire, pounds sterling by Faster Payments and Swiss francs by SIC or SWIFT, paid to the bank account you choose.

Payout currencies and rails

What bank details do I need to enter?

The account details your bank gives you for incoming transfers (an IBAN for euros and Swiss francs, an account number and sort code for pounds, an account number with a routing number or a SWIFT code for dollars) and the account holder’s name. Enter the name exactly as your bank holds it: many banks now check that the name matches the account before accepting a transfer.

When will the money reach my bank?

We typically send it within the hour of your collateral being confirmed. SEPA Instant and Faster Payments transfers usually arrive within seconds, when your bank supports them. Fedwire and SIC payments run on business days and usually arrive the same day; SWIFT transfers can take one to two business days, depending on the banks involved.

Does the payout cost anything?

Payouts by SEPA and Faster Payments are free. SWIFT payouts are charged at cost, and intermediary banks may deduct their own charges along the way. Your own bank may also charge for incoming international payments.

My bank is asking about the transfer. What can I show them?

Banks may ask about the origin of an incoming payment. Your loan agreement and your payout statement, both available in your client area, show that the money is a loan secured by your own crypto-assets.

Repayment

How do I repay?

By bank transfer in the currency of your loan, using the payment reference shown in your client area, or in USDT or USDC. You can repay at any time, in full or in part, without any fee.

Repayment

Can I repay part of the loan?

Yes, any amount, whenever you like. A partial repayment lowers your loan-to-value and the interest you pay from that day on.

When do I get my collateral back?

Once your full repayment has been received, your collateral is sent to the address you choose, typically within the hour. The network fee is charged at cost and shown before you confirm.

If I repay early, do I still pay interest for the full term?

No. Interest accrues daily, so you only pay for the days you borrowed, and there is no early-repayment fee, for a credit line or a fixed-term loan alike.

What happens at the end of a fixed-term loan?

You repay it, or roll it over into a new term at the rate then in force. Your client area reminds you ahead of the end of the term.

Risk, margin calls & liquidation

What is my loan-to-value, and why does it move?

It is what you owe divided by what your collateral is worth: €25,000 owed against collateral worth €50,000 is a 50% loan-to-value. It moves with the price of your collateral, with the exchange rate if your loan is not in US dollars, and with interest you let accrue.

LTV and margin calls

Where will I see alerts if the market falls?

In your client area, from an early warning at 65% loan-to-value, and as browser notifications if you enable them. We cannot email, text or call you, so turn notifications on, on more than one device if you can, and check your client area when markets move sharply.

What exactly happens during a margin call?

At 70% loan-to-value (87% for USDT and USDC) you have 72 hours to bring it back below that level, by adding collateral or repaying part of the loan. If the price keeps falling and the liquidation threshold is reached during those 72 hours, the partial liquidation happens without waiting for the period to end.

How much collateral is sold in a partial liquidation?

Only what is needed. At 80% loan-to-value (92% for stablecoins), we sell just enough collateral to bring it back to 65% (84% for stablecoins), with a fee of 1% of the amount sold. The rest stays yours.

Liquidation policy

Could all of my collateral be sold?

Only at 90% loan-to-value (95% for stablecoins), or if the loan is in default. The collateral is then sold to repay the loan in full, with a fee of 2% of the amount sold, and anything left after the loan, interest and fees is returned to you.

How can I reduce the risk of a liquidation?

Borrow less than the maximum: at 30% loan-to-value, bitcoin can fall 57% before a margin call, against 14% at 60%. Pay interest monthly, keep spare crypto ready to top up, enable browser notifications, and test your loan with the liquidation price calculator before you borrow.

Privacy

What information do you hold about me?

Your account number, a hash of your password, the public key of any passkey you add, your collateral at its own address, the payout account you choose, your contract, your messages and your payment history. No name from an identity document, no email address, no phone number.

Privacy by design

Does this website track me?

No. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no third-party scripts, which is why there is no cookie banner, and our servers do not record your IP address. Your last simulation and display settings are remembered in your own browser only; nothing about them is sent to us.

No-tracking statement

Do you sell or share data?

We never sell or rent data, and we do not use it for advertising. Like any company, we must comply with legally binding requests from competent authorities, but we can only disclose what we hold, and we hold very little.

What does my bank see?

An incoming transfer with its amount, the sender and the payment reference, like any other transfer. Your account number and your collateral addresses are not part of the payment.
